About Us
Sculptures of India (SOI) is an initiative to sustain and exhibit
Indian tribal craftsmanship at its finest. SOI’s focus is to rehabilitate artisans dedicated to the art of stone sculpting, tribal painting, metal sculpting. This art resides in fragmented pockets across India and is fading away as the younger generations are migrating to cities picking up odd jobs to escape abject poverty. Traditional Sculpting and Art in India has been a victim of an unorganised marketplace wherein artisans seldom get a fair share of the trade.
Currently the tribal artists operate in silos without much awareness of contemporary techniques and sensibilities involved in sculpting. SOI intends to change all that by creating a platform that connects the sculptors / artisans to buyers across the globe and renders optimum exposure that such an inherited skill truly deserves.
SOI is committed to sourcing rare and intricate stone sculptures from across India for its clients globally. Each piece is absolutely handcrafted and comes with a rich legacy.
About Our Store
Our store consists of detailed handcrafted sculptures, paintings and metal murals. All these form of art are completely given shape by our artisans and do not have any archeological linkage except it be inspired by the same designs. Said that these sculptures still posses in them the detailing which was once the pride of the emperors palaces and temples in Ancient India. All the sculptures are purely hand crafted and do not use any modern machineries for their final shape. Hence they hold in them the very artistic value which you would find in any Indian art when carbon dated. It takes anything between 20 days to about 6 to 8 months for carving out a piece, based on the type of the stone and the size of the sculpture. We have a wide range of sculptures which will quench the thirst for both interiors and exteriors of any architectural design. These sculptures range from 1 feet in height to about 7.5 feet and can weigh between 15 kgs (33 pounds) to about 1500 kgs (3306 pounds). They further carry with them the option of different stones and colours to choose from based upon the interiors or exteriors of the design. Apt for homes, offices, farms, or retail stores they are sure to leave an impression on you and others for a lifetime. Our sculptures are niche and are bound to become your statement. We at ‘Sculptures Of India’ also undertake custom sculpting projects so that we can convert your dream designs into a heavy, ‘presence worthy’ reality. OUR FOUNDERS STORY
Sankalp Brahma founded ‘Sculptures Of India’ (SOI).
He started this initiative so that he can take the art forms of India to a global level and showcase the richness that lies deep within the artisans of his country; showcase that the craftsmanship of Indian artisans is beyond comparison.
Sankalp had been involved in this business for over a couple of years, however on a very personal and minuscule level. What triggered him to take this ahead and churn it into a social business was to safe guard the dying heritage of sculpting and painting these artisans posses in their gene pool. Because of the difficult times and the ever contributing unorganised market, these artisans were not being able to pass on the legacy of sculpting and painting to their children. And the children or youth enamoured with the limelight and living conditions in urban townships felt compelled to find a living there. End result, the decline of such a vast legacy and historic heritage – their skill.
Disturbed by this, Sankalp stood up to the need of the hour and told himself that this magnificence should not go towards oblivion. That is when then he came up with the name “Sculptures of India”, hoping that this platform will unify the creations and imaginations of artisans across different states in India under a vision of creating a global brand to showcase their story.
Sankalp Brahma’s vision is that these artisans can draw salaries at least thrice of what they are currently getting for creating art. His vision encompasses organising a series of ties up with renowned sculptors and acclaimed artists globally to train these artisans on the global standards of sculpting and painting, keeping the traditional art form alive.
He also wants to bring these artisans closer to technology and make them see how much their work is being appreciated globally by “making a mandate for buyers to leave behind a video feedback or message to the artisan” every time they buy a piece of art from SOI. By doing so he wants to bridge the boundaries of the “long lost feedback” that every human being deserves; that these artisans have deserved for decades.
